The Finale…… What a Result!

The race started at 1.25pm and was even hotter than Saturday’s. I was 9th on the grid with work to do. I made a great start but got pushed into the pit wall by a stupid move from another competitor, thinking that he had cleared my car, when in fact I was fully alongside him!

This demoted me to 11th with even more work to do. I made a move down the inside of Hamilton at Graham Hill bend which I finished at Surtees to then chase down team mate Dickenson. It was the next lap where I lunged at him at Surtees as well, to take 9th by this stage. Luckily for me, the safety car came out following an incident which bunched as all back up again.

Whorton-Eales made a mistake at Paddock which allowed Rob Boston and myself through at Druids. I then chased Boston down, got a good exit from clearways and took to the outside for Paddock! Making him defend he ran wide on the exit of Paddock, and I made the overlap into Druids, now into 6th, next target James Dixon.

I reeled Dixon in over the closing stages, gaining fastest lap in doing so, the only car under 1m41s with the exception of race leader (and former Clio Cup title winner and newly crowned 2011 champion) Paul Rivett. I gave him serious pressure for the last 4 laps, but he didn’t make a mistake. On the last lap I made great momentum through the very fast Sheene Curve, and made him defend into clearways for the final time.

Making the overlap, I took to the grass on the inside of the start finish ‘straight’ and pipped him to the line by 3 hundredths of a second, and to a well-deserved 5th place. It was a great race, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a brilliant way to end the season, especially with 7th overall in the championship and the top Rookie of the year, this all shows a lot of promise for a title bid for 2012…
