Files sets sights on top step of Clio Cup podium at high-speed Thruxton circuit

Team Pyro's Josh Files has his sights set on achieving race victories when the Renault UK Clio Cup recommences at the ultra-high speed Thruxton circuit this weekend (4-5 May).

After a disappointing start to his 2013 campaign, the Vocalink-backed racer re-emerged as a frontrunner at Donington Park a fortnight ago by taking a brace of second place finishes.

Files came within 0.013s of victory in Round 4 at the historic East Midlands venue, following a dramatic door handle-to-door handle tussle with Clio Cup veteran Paul Rivett.

However, with the championship heading to Hampshire’s Thruxton circuit – the fastest track in the UK – the Norwich-based driver is keen to break his race wins duck before venturing off to Italy’s evocative Imola circuit for his first foray in the dovetailed Eurocup Clio series (11-12 May).

“Having come so close to achieving that elusive first win at Donington two weeks ago, I have to aim for the top step of the podium this weekend at Thruxton,” said a determined Files.

“I think we demonstrated that we have the pace to consistently challenge at the front and I’m feeling pretty confident about our chances. On top of that, I really enjoy Thruxton and have a decent record around there, so I hope to use that knowledge and enthusiasm for the circuit to my advantage.”

Renault UK Clio Cup qualifying will take place at 11.20 on Saturday (4 May), while Round 5 of the championship is scheduled for 16.35 that same day.

Round 6 of the highly-competitive one-make saloon car series will run from 12.42 on Sunday (5 May) and will be broadcast live and in high definition on ITV4 and ITV4HD.
