Files targeting UK Clio Cup podiums at picturesque Oulton Park

Team Pyro’s Josh Files is targeting podium finishes when the Renault UK Clio Cup recommences at Cheshire’s picturesque Oulton Park circuit (8-9 June), in a bid to strengthen his title charge.

After a disappointing start to his 2013 campaign, the Norwich-based racer re-emerged as a leading contender in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship-supporting Clio Cup, taking four consecutive podium finishes at Donington Park and Thruxton.

Files, backed by Vocalink – a designer, builder and operator of world-class payment systems and ATM switching platforms – is yet to break his race wins duck in the UK Clio Cup.

However, in the knowledge that points win prizes, the 22-year old will continue targeting consistent top three results in the North West.

“I think we have a good chance of achieving big results at Oulton Park, although we won’t really know where we are in relation to everybody else until we hit the track for the first time,” said Files. “Knowing what Team Pyro can do, I can’t see why we won’t be in the top five from the word go.

“I’ll push for outright race victories if an opportunity presents itself – I’ll grab the narrowest of chances with both hands and I’m not afraid to exchange a bit of paint – but I think podiums are our chief objective. Consistent top three finishes will bolster my championship charge – I’ll be disappointed if we don’t achieve at least one podium.”

Renault UK Clio Cup qualifying is scheduled to take place at 11.00 on Saturday 8 June, with Round 7 later that same day at 16.30.

Round 8 will commence at 15.14 on Sunday 9 June and will be broadcast live and in high definition on ITV4 and ITV4HD.
