Josh Files receives prestigious BRDC 'Rising Star' accolade

Renault UK Clio Cup championship leader Josh Files has this week been selected to become part of the prestigious British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) Rising Star programme.

Files, backed by Bacs Payment Schemes Ltd – the people behind Direct Debit in the UK – began his motorsport career racing historics with his father, making a name for himself by emphatically clinching the 2010 Thoroughbred Sports Car Championship title.

The Norwich-domiciled racer then made a successful transition to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship-supporting Renault UK Clio Cup; clinching multiple podium finishes, he was named ‘Rookie of the Year’ in 2011 and then added yet more top three finishes to his tally in 2012.

Now in his third consecutive season in Britain’s premier one-make saloon car championship, Files is firmly established as a title contender by breaking his race wins duck and taking the initiative in the standings. In addition, the 22-year old has had an awe-inspiring start to his maiden campaign in the ultra-competitive Eurocup Clio Championship and has a very real chance of sealing the title on his first attempt.

And his efforts haven’t gone unheeded. After an interview at the BRDC’s Silverstone base, Josh was invited to become part of the Club’s prestigious Rising Star scheme – an invitation only programme for a selection of the most talented up-and-coming racing drivers in the UK.

Membership of the BRDC is highly sought after and incredibly difficult to achieve. Therefore, Files is thrilled to be joining what is, arguably, the most prominent and exclusive club in the motorsport world.

“It was quite a surprise when I was told that I’d been selected as a BRDC Rising Star,” said a jubilant Files. “I’m absolutely delighted, as I’ve always wanted to be part of the scheme. I hoped I’d be considered for it if I won this year’s Renault UK Clio Cup title, so to get this incredible accolade now is just amazing.

“I had my interview last week, but I couldn’t quite believe it when I received the letter confirming that I’m now a BRDC Rising Star – it’s recognised by everybody involved in motorsport and opens the door to a host of incredible opportunities.”

Files will benefit from full BRDC member access, which includes the use of the Silverstone Club House and passes for all motorsport events held at the Northamptonshire-based circuit, as well as great networking prospects with many of British motorsport’s greatest names.

Meanwhile, Files is preparing for Rounds 13 and 14 of the 2013 Renault UK Clio Cup, which will be held on the Rockingham Motor Speedway on 13-14 September.
