Testing Times and Timing…

The first test of the day was at 10.55am. The session started well, simply warming myself and the car up. Initially my times weren’t too bad but were hampered by a malfunctioning time beacon. This meant that my lap times were in the high 1m33s and my pit board was telling me that I was 2.6seconds off pole position, which I thought was ridiculous as last year’s pole position was a 1m31.5 and no one was on new tyres. My technician started to manually time me as a result and all of a sudden I moved up to 7th and just 0.5 seconds off pole. By the end of the session I had set a lap time of 1m33.154s, just 0.2 seconds of the fastest but still only managing 8th overall; Clio Cup racing is incredibly close.

The second session started at 2.55pm and instantly the track felt much slower than before. We worked out that the track was around 0.3seconds slower than the morning. I set a number of good laps before coming in for some new tyres ready for a qualifying simulation run. The new tyres went on and instantly I found 1 second from before, but still only low 1m33s which really annoyed me. I was P5 for the majority of the session however, right up until the last lap where I dropped to 7th but again only 0.4s of the fastest with a 1m33.2s. Hopefully tomorrow’s qualifying will get even better than today and I can get into the top 5. Fingers crossed!
