Files aiming to start Clio Cup season on top at Brands Hatch

Norwich’s Josh Files, one of the country’s most aspiring touring car racers, will be looking to impress at Brands Hatch this weekend (March 31st/1 April) as the 2012 AirAsia Renault Clio Cup bursts into life at the Kent circuit.

The shorter Brands Hatch Indy layout plays host to the opening rounds of Britain’s premier one-make saloon car championship and Files, will be aiming for big things in front of a full house of spectators on the circuit that he was very quick, and composed on during pre season testing.

The driver, backed as part of Direct Debit's Big Break campaign, rounded off his debut Clio Cup season in superb fashion by finishing as the highest placed rookie in seventh position, firmly establishing himself as a real championship contender for the 2012 season.

“I felt over the moon at the end of last season,” said Files. “In the second half of the 2011 season it was quite clear that I was the biggest mover in the races, which has given me a lot of confidence.”

“We were very quick in the old car during winter testing, so I’m highly confident that I will be able to deliver when the championship commences at Brands Hatch this weekend. I’m really looking forward to working with Team Pyro again this year and hope that I can add to their list of championship winners.”

Files will also be confident that he has the right package and team to help him stake a claim to the 2012 championship, with Team Pyro being renowned for producing talents such as BTCC racers Dave Newsham and in particular, 2011 Vice Champion, Aron Smith.

Following free practice on Friday, 30th March, qualifying for the 2012 AirAsia Renault Clio Cup will commence on Saturday, 31st April at 12:00, with round one at 17:10 and round two on Sunday, 1st April, at 15:00.
