Front row start for Files at Rockingham

Team Pyro’s Josh Files will line up in second position for round 11 of the AirAsia Renault Clio Cup at Northamptonshire’s Rockingham Motor Speedway tomorrow (Sunday, 23 September), as the Norwich based racer continued to build on his impressive 2011 performance at the 1.94 mile circuit.

The driver, backed as part of Direct Debit’s Big Break campaign in co-ordination with Marie Curie, ended his recent absence from the front row of the grid, putting him in good stead as he looks to earn his first victory in Britain’s premier one-make saloon car championship.

Currently lying fourth in the championship standings, just four points adrift of Total Control Racing’s James Dixon, Files remains certain of a strong performance to benefit his title aspirations tomorrow.

“At first we went out on really scrubbed tyres just to get the rears warm,” explained Files. “I came in, put on the first new set, and the car just felt absolutely mega from the word go, so we put in some good times which delivered me second and sixth respectively.”

“The second set of tyres went on and didn’t quite feel as good, but we kept going with them anyway. By the time I finally got them to work for me, Hamilton had crashed and that ended our chance of a late challenge for pole.”

“I’m pleased with how the session went though, I would have liked to of pipped Jack to pole but it is what it is, I’m sure that we can beat him into the first corner tomorrow.”

Rounds 11 & 12 of the AirAsia Renault Clio Cup will get underway tomorrow (Sunday, 23rd September), at 10:40 and 15:50 respectively and will be aired live on ITV4 and ITV4 HD.
