Files hankering for UK Clio Cup race wins at Rockingham

Team Pyro’s Josh Files is hankering for more race wins at the Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby, Northamptonshire – the host venue for Rounds 13 and 14 of the 2013 Renault UK Clio Cup (14-15 September).

Files, backed by Bacs Payment Schemes Ltd – the people behind Direct Debit in the UK – has been a regular feature at the sharp end of the UK Clio Cup field all season long.

Supremely consistent performances and a string of pole positions, podium finishes and race victories have allowed the Norwich-domiciled racer to draw out a 13-point buffer over chief title rival Paul Rivett in the championship standings.

However, with four races remaining and 136 points still available to any one driver, all eyes will be focused on this scintillating battle when Britain’s premier one-make saloon car championship takes to Rockingham’s 1.94-mile International Super Sportscar circuit, as part of the illustrious support bill for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).

Files – recently selected as a BRDC Rising Star – vows to take no prisoners in his pursuit of silverware at “The Rock” as he bids to extend his points advantage ahead of the much-anticipated season finale at Brands Hatch (12-13 October).

“Once again we’ll be gunning for race wins or podium finishes at Rockingham to bolster my lead over Paul Rivett,” said Files. “When you look at how many points are up for grabs and consider that my 13-point lead is reduced to just six when you apply the single ‘drop score’ ruling, there’s still a long way to go. When you’re up against a three-time Champion like Rivett, you’d be foolish to get too comfortable.

“Breaking my race wins duck at Croft and then winning on home tarmac at Snetterton was a real confidence boost and I just hope that momentum is on my side. Rockingham is an interesting track – the concrete wall-lined banked oval section keeps you on your toes. Conditions should be mixed too, so that’s another variable to consider. It will make the going even more treacherous if we have wet races!”

Renault UK Clio Cup qualifying will begin at 10.50 on Saturday (14 September), while Round 13 is scheduled for 16.20 later that same day.
Round 13, meanwhile, will get under way at 14.42 on Sunday (15 September) and will be broadcast live and in high definition on ITV4 and ITV4 HD.
