ZANDVOORT AGAIN PRODUCES A WHIRLWIND WEEKEND IN TCR GERMANY

Target competition driver Josh Files managed to extend his championship lead further still in the 4th round at Zandvoort, the Netherlands, to now lead the German championship by 104 points from nearest rival Mike Halder.

The Honda Pilot had a difficult start to the weekend in Free practice as he managed to produce lap times good enough for P8 and P15 using only old tyres, with new tyres usually giving over 1 second advantage.

With this in mind the Q1 qualifying session started and on the first flying lap Files managed a 1.46.9 lap to qualify him for the all important Q2 pole position shoot out. In Q2 a slightly different strategy meant Files slightly hindered himself and could only find a lap good enough for 7th on the grid with a reverse grid position of 4th for race 2.

At the start of race 1 Files again made an electric start and moved straight into 4th by turn 1 attacking for 3rd. Shortly after the safety car came out however and the race had to be stopped to attend to a stricken driver. During the delay the rain started to fall, and Files opted for rain tyres, a decision in the end that wasn't correct. However with true grit and determination he managed to make his way up into a podium position to take 3rd place for the first race, only beaten by slick tyre cars.

Race 2 was held Sunday afternoon with rain threatening an otherwise sunny circuit. As the lights went out Files jumped into 2nd position behind the pole sitting Audi of Niels Langveld. At the end of lap 1 Files came under increasing pressure from the other fast starting Audi of Van der Linde who took 2nd position away on lap 2. The safety car was deployed for the first time and at the restart Files was pushing to regain 2nd place before a gearbox sensor failed leaving him with only 3rd and 4th gears. After losing many positions the Target driver managed to hold on to an incredible 14th place amongst the 40 car entry, with an exceptional defensive display showing the Honda of Files must be the widest of all TCR cars.

"What an incredible weekend. Zandvoort always seems to deliver the unexpected, just like last year" said the 26 year old Brit. "We just didn't have the speed this weekend for some reason, I made some wrong calls also but through it all we managed to get a well deserved podium and even with my gearbox issue I was so happy to hold on to 14th. The rear bumper wasn't looking so happy mind you!" He laughed

"Finally I have to say a huge thank you to my sponsors, the Target boys and my engineer Albert, we are still unlocking performance from the setup and they are still pushing as hard as ever! The car was mega, we were just unfortunate in the end"

The championship resumes in just 10 days at the famous Nurburgring circuit in northern Germany for round 5 of the ADAC TCR.
