FILES TAKES HIS FIRST VICTORY OF THE SEASON IN ZANDVOORT

27-year-old Briton, Josh Files took a near lights to flag win in Zandvoort for the second race of the weekend, after securing 4th in the first race and moving into 3rd overall in the drivers’ standings.

Files and his HELL ENERGY by KCMG team worked through a number of differing setups throughout the 2 free practise sessions, and without using any new tyres, they finished both sessions comfortably inside the top 10.

Qualifying
During the Friday 2-part qualifying session Files had his first taste of new front tyres. He made a first flying of 1m 45.293s to put him comfortably 2nd at the time later being dropped to 4th in the Q1 segment, with the top 12 moving forward to Q2’s pole position shootout. In Q2 files made a lap of 1m 45.635s putting him P7 overall and 4th for the reversed grid race 2.

Race 1
Files was promoted to a 6th place starting position due to a penalty of another car. He made a very fast start and moved into 3rd place by turn 3. A long safety car period followed due to a large start line crash. After the safety car, Files struggled with ultimate pace of the leaders, and was fighting hard to keep Jaap Van Lagen, the pole position man, behind. After an intense battle Van Lagen finally got the jump on Files with 5 minutes to go, and Files consolidated a very good 4th overall

Race 2
Files started from P4 on the grid and again made an electric start. He moved instantly into 2nd by turn 1 and then pounced on race leader Jens Moeller at turn 7 to take the lead. He then continued to create a gap to the fighting pack eventually securing the win by 4.3 seconds over second position, and pole position man, Van Lagen.

“What a great weekend for HELL ENERGY racing with KCMG. Our first Victory as a team, my team mate on the podium also, and we took the lead of the team championship. The season has really started for us now! I have to thank my engineer Nicola for working hard with me to get the car how I like it, all the guys at KCMG for being so professional and hardworking, and of course my great personal sponsors for their continued support. This win is for everyone!” exclaimed a jubilant Files.

Round 3 of the season gets underway at the famous circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in just over 2 weeks on the 8-10th June.
